The 49 Club was originally situated at 49 Oxford Street, hence the name
'49 Club'. The club was set up as a social meeting place for the employees of the Bristol Omnibus Company. Bus inspector Gilbert Day borrowed an amount of money from the bus station canteen to start a club and the 49 Club was born.
The club went from strength to strength and larger premesis were needed. The club bought 2 shops in Baker Street and the club moved to its home where it remains to this day.
